The Terwa's location on the shores of Kaartjärvi conceals thousands of years of history. Significant fixed ancient remains have been discovered in the area, including Stone Age dwelling sites, early metal age and Iron Age cairns, as well as possible cultivation cairns. The nearby Salonkallio has been inhabited for thousands of years, and archaeological finds have been made in the manor's surroundings since the 1950s.
The main building of the current The Terwa is part of the Salo manor, which was formed in the 17th century from five estates. The manor served as a säteriratsutila for the Laurentz family for over 300 years. The oldest parts of the main building date back to 1800, and its significant expansion took place in the 1850s. From the mid-20th century onwards, the manor was known as Riihisalo, when it operated as a meeting and training center owned by the city of Riihimäki.
Today, The Terwa continues this long tradition - in a place where history is still visible in the terrain, in buildings and the whole landscape.
