The Terwa
Story
The story of Terwa
For millennia, Terwa's place has attracted people because of their beauty and the riches of nature. The history of the area extends to the hardware season, and its soil lies in strata - archaeological discoveries, iron mines and ancient tar graves tell about past generations.
The history of the current The Terwa began in 1650, when Queen Kristiina donated the estate to the Mayor of Helsinki. Over the centuries, the manor changed hands many times until, in the 19th century, Adolf Fredrik Sohlman founded the Rautakoski ironworks in the area. He discovered lake ore in the manor's lakes, which proved to be an excellent raw material - axes, dams, nails, and other tools were manufactured here. Later, the factory was expanded with an oil press and the production of fine-grained products.
As the factory slowed down in the early 20th century, the turpentine and tar industry flourished in the area and several grain mills. The heritage of these eras is still living in the landscape - as peaceful forest roads, old miners and stories that are wrapped around The Terwa.
Today, The Terwa - Nordic Hideaway continues this unique history, combining Nordic peace of nature, effortless luxury and authentic heritage. This is a place where past and current encounters - an exclusive escape where the beauty, silence and top service create an unforgettable experience.
