The Terwa – Nordic Hideaway: Safety instructions for guests
(These instructions can be found in the rooms and cottages, as well as electronically with a QR code or link. Familiarize yourself with the instructions as soon as you check in.)
- First aid kit: In all accommodation units there is a first aid kit, at the manor a first aid cabinet, it can be found in the public areas near the door or in the kitchen cupboard, the location is marked ”First aid sign” Green background, white cross”. Ensure when you arrive that you find it.
- Fire alarm: In every accommodation space there is a fire alarm for your safety. Älä never cover or remove the fire alarm. Report to staff immediately if you notice a fault in the fire alarm (e.g., continuous beeping indicates a weak battery – contact isanta@theterwa.com). The fire alarm's warning sound is a loud siren – evacuate immediately if you hear it and you do not know the cause.
- In case of fire: If you notice a fire or smoke, stay calm but act immediately. Alert/eliminate danger: warn those in the same building (knock on neighbors' doors, shout “Fire!”) and move quickly out through the nearest exit. Call 112 (emergency number) immediately when you are safe outside, and give the exact address: “Rautakoskentie 421, Loppi, The Terwa Nordic Hideaway, cottage/Manor [specify which building]”. Try to extinguish the initial fire only if it is small and you feel confident using extinguishers – otherwise leave immediately. Close the doors behind you when you leave, if possible.
- Exit routes: Find clear immediately upon arrival, where you find the exit. The main door is usually the best route. Additionally you can in an emergency use windows for exiting, if the route to the door is blocked. Follow the green exit signs in larger buildings (Manor, Summerhouse, Main Lodge and Barn) – they show the way out
- Assembly point: When you have left the building, go immediately to the resort's common assembly point at the front yard of the Päämaja building. The assembly point is marked with a sign. We will ensure there that everyone is safe. Do not leave the area without permission during an emergency – the rescue service may look for you if you are not at the assembly point. Stay at the assembly point until you receive further instructions from the responsible person or rescue authorities.
- Emergency calls and contacts: From the general emergency number 112 you get help for all urgent situations (fire, medical emergency, accident). The resort's responsible person Kari Järvenpää is reachable at 040 049 0922 around the clock – call him in an emergency if you need help or immediate emergency advice, otherwise send an email isanta@theterwa.com. The area has good mobile network coverage; if your phone does not find a signal, go outside and try again or ask for help from another guest.
- Fire making and smoking:Smoking is prohibited in all indoor spaces. Smoke only outdoors at the designated area and use the provided containers for cigarette butts. Never smoke in the bed or in the forested area. Candles or outdoor torches may be lit only with staff permission and according to instructions: usually cabins have pre‑installed electric candles for ambience – use those instead. Fireplace/sauna: If you use the fireplace in Väentuva or the beach sauna or a wood‑heated sauna, use them carefully according to the guidelines. Never leave fire or stove unattended. Ensure the fire is fully extinguished before you leave or go to bed. Ashes must be placed in metal containers, do not pour ashes into trash bins or nature.
- General safety: Keep your cottage doors locked when you are away, but make sure you can get out yourself in an emergency. Keep the first‑aid kit and flashlight in your cottage easily accessible – they are usually found in the hallway cupboard or kitchen drawer. Report to staff immediately if you notice anything that could cause insecurity (e.g., faulty device, burnt bulb in outdoor lighting, slippery spot on stairs or an open well, etc.). The area is traversed at your own responsibility, but we want to make the environment as safe as possible.
- When you arrive and depart: Familiarize yourself with the safety instructions for your accommodation. Note where the nearest fire extinguisher and fire blanket are located. Check the evacuation route. Inform your travel companions or family what you will do in an emergency. When leaving, make sure that the electrical appliances are turned off, and that nothing that could cause a fire remains on (stove, oven, sauna, iron etc.). Also turn off candles and the fireplace well in advance.
